Staring at a blank search box is the worst way to shop for a gift. The gift quiz above turns the problem into four small decisions: who the gift is for, how much you want to spend, what that person loves, and what kind of gift feels right. When you finish, it shows six ideas from our hand-built list of more than 200 gifts, each with a typical price range and a one-line reason it works. There is no sign-up, no email request and nothing to download.

How the quiz picks your gifts
The quiz is not a black box. Every gift in our dataset is tagged with the people it suits, a low and high price, up to three interests and a style such as practical, cozy, playful or memorable. When you answer, the quiz first removes any gift that does not suit the person you picked or whose price range falls entirely outside your budget. It then gives each remaining gift points: three for matching the recipient and budget, three more for every interest you chose that the gift shares, and two more if the gift fits the vibe you selected. A small bonus goes to gifts whose price sits near the middle of your budget, so a $90 gift does not outrank a $40 one just because you said "up to $120".
The six highest scores become your result. If your answers are so specific that fewer than three gifts qualify, the quiz relaxes the interest and vibe filters while keeping the recipient and budget, so you are never left with an empty page. Ties are broken in a fixed order rather than at random, which means the same answers always produce the same result. That matters for sharing, as explained below.

The four questions, and how to answer them well
Who are you shopping for? Choose the closest match from eleven groups: mom, dad, a grandparent, a partner or spouse, a teen, a kid between four and twelve, a baby or toddler, a coworker, a teacher, a friend, or a host or neighbor. If the person sits between groups, pick the one that governs how you would wrap and hand over the gift. A college student you see twice a year is usually closer to "teen" than "friend".
What is your budget? There are five bands: under $15, $15 to $30, $30 to $60, $60 to $120 and $120 and up. Choose the amount you would be comfortable spending if the perfect item turned up, not the amount you hope to spend. You can always run the quiz again with a lower band and compare.
What do they love? Pick up to three interests from a list of twenty-two, including food, cooking, coffee, home, wellness, fitness, tech, gaming, music, reading, art, crafts, travel, outdoors, pets and more. Two or three interests produce the best results. Picking none is fine; the quiz then leans on the recipient, budget and vibe.
What kind of gift feels right? Useful and practical, cozy and comforting, fun and playful, or memorable, which covers experiences and handmade gifts. If you cannot decide, think about the last gift this person praised without being asked.
Sharing your result
When the quiz finishes, a share bar appears under your six ideas. The headline is written in the first person, for example "My perfect gift for Mom is a cozy fleece throw", and the link behind it opens a result page for that type of recipient with your budget, interests and vibe already filled in. Nothing is stored on our servers to make this work. Your answers travel inside the link itself, so anyone who opens it sees the same questions answered the same way, and can change an answer and see a new result.
Each recipient type also has its own preview card, so a link shared to Facebook, WhatsApp, Pinterest or X shows a themed image and a recipient-specific title rather than a generic page. You can share with the buttons, copy the link, send it by email or use your phone's native share sheet. Every shared link carries a harmless source tag that tells us which network sent the visit; it contains no information about you.
One useful trick: send the link to the person who will split a gift with you. They can open it, adjust the budget and see whether the ideas still make sense, which beats a long group chat.

Save ideas to your wish list or shopping notes
Each result card has a "Compare prices" button and a "+ Wish list" button. Compare prices opens a generic Amazon search for the item, so you see current prices and reviews rather than a stale number from us. If you are shopping for yourself or building a list for relatives to see, the wish list button saves the idea to the Christmas wish list on this device. From there you can print the list, copy it as text or share it with a link.
Prices on our cards are typical ranges, not live offers. Stores change prices constantly during November and December, so treat our numbers as a guide to the budget band, and always check the shop before you buy. The compare links are Amazon search links that include our affiliate tag; we may earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no cost to you, as explained in our affiliate disclosure.
When the quiz is not enough
A quiz can narrow thousands of products to six, but it cannot know that your dad already owns three headlamps. If a result feels close but not right, change one answer, usually the vibe, and run it again. If you want to scan more ideas at once, switch to the gift finder, which shows every matching idea and lets you filter by age as well. For ideas written for a specific person, our guides for mom, dad and teachers go deeper than any quiz can, with reasons, price ranges and things to avoid.
Remember that the best gift often answers a small complaint. Someone who grumbles about cold hands, a tangled charging cable or a flat pillow has told you what they would like. Use the quiz to find the category, and use your own memory to choose the version.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Christmas gift quiz free?
Yes. It is free, needs no account and asks for no personal information. The quiz runs in your browser using a gift list that loads with the page.
How many gift ideas does the quiz use?
The quiz draws on more than 200 curated gift ideas across eleven recipient types and five budget bands. Each idea has a typical price range, interests and a style tag that the quiz uses for scoring.
Does the quiz save my answers or my result?
No. Your answers stay in your browser and in the link you choose to share. We do not store quiz results on a server. If you share the link, anyone with it can see the answers encoded in it, so avoid sharing it if the interests would give away a surprise.
Why did I get the same result twice?
The quiz is deterministic: the same answers always produce the same ranked list, so a shared link shows what you saw. Change an interest, the budget or the vibe to see different ideas, or use the gift finder's shuffle button.
Are the price numbers accurate?
They are typical ranges based on common retail prices, not live quotes. Use the Compare prices button to check current prices before you buy.
Can I take the quiz for more than one person?
Yes. Take it as many times as you like. Each result has its own link, and you can add favorite ideas from each to your wish list or shopping notes.
